Vintage Red™ Eucalyptus is a landscape tree with red foliage
Vintage Red™ Eucalyptus has beautiful foliage and is a proven landscape tree for southern states, also a great garden feature. Foliage colour is deep red maturing to purple to grey tones.

It produces rich dark red stems that are almost black, then peels off to reveal smooth grey bark. Responds very well to pruning, it produces denser foliage and can be kept as a shrub if pruned.

With any new tree there is a learning curve of how best to grow it. With something so revolutionary as Vintage Red™ Eucalyptus, the learning curve was steeper. Standard practices needed to be tweaked.

The real breakthrough came with elite understock was sourced through the CSIRO. The results have been amazing. The original common understock created problems, often with the graft growing quicker than the understock.

The new elite understock has totally transformed this tree. Growing advanced trees of Eucalyptus is difficult as they often outgrow the containers and become stretched.

Through trialling, the growers have now found that it responds extremely well to pruning, far better than most Eucalyptus. Pruning makes it easier for the growers to grow and is resulting in a much higher quality tree.

    How it works

ACT, VIC, SA, WA & NSW (not suited north of Sydney. For Sydney only use as a maintained tree pruned annually.)

Full sun to part shade. Tolerates cold and drought. Vintage Red™ Eucalyptus suits sandy loam to well drained clay soils.

    How to use

Attractive specimen tree, cut foliage, landscape tree for southern states.

    Care Instructions

Water as required for 8-13 weeks until established. Plant in a well mulched garden (chunky mulch is recommended, DO NOT MULCH TOO HIGH), mulch should be well below graft union. If required use slow release fertiliser in spring.

For best results or to keep Vintage Red™ Eucalyptus smaller prune early spring each year (essential for Sydney). Southern states can leave Vintage Red™ Eucalyptus unpruned to grow taller. Keep an eye out for caterpillars and gum leaf scale.

We recommend planting Vintage Red™ Eucalyptus with confidor planting tabs to control possible pests like scale and caterpillars such as gum moth, which it can be susceptible to. This can really set the tree back if it gets attacked.
